being a “real” adult

she sat on my couch and just stared at the pictures on the wall. stared at the brides in flowing wedding dresses and their ‘prince charming’ looking all handsome in a suit next to them. i could see the wheels spinning in her mind. i love when i can look at her face and see her mind racing. lauren has always loved sitting watching me edit wedding pictures, i think just because she loves the dresses :0) as she sat on my couch looking at the wedding pictures on my walls, she looked up at me with just a little bit of concern on her face and asked “miss jessie, you’ll take pictures of me one day when i get married too, right? do you think i’ll look as pretty as they do?” my jaw dropped and i suddenly could not find the words to tell her that one day she is going to be the most beautiful bride that ever walked down the aisle. I pulled her on my lap and wrapped my arms around her, hoping that she knew in that moment how precious she was. She turns around and looks at me, and with that same concerned look on her face and says “you know, you really should get married so you can be a REAL adult…” and once again, i was at a loss for words as to how to respond to her six year old logic. Umm.. helloooo did you not notice the college degree? that own my own business? the big stack of bills in the corner? clearly, she was not impressed. marriage is the ticket to becoming a REAL adult. I looked back at her and simply said “… i’m working on it.” :0)

Well maybe if the things i mentioned above don’t qualify me as an adult, maybe owning my own house will! by monday morning I will be a home owner and Jessica Smith Photography will officially be based out of Leesburg, VA and I’m so excited about it :0) so maybe since i will only be 15 minutes away from them and I promised Lauren and Sammy their own bedroom at my house, that will give me some bonus points and I’ll finally fall into the ‘adult’ category in her eyes :0)

Eventually I will have pretty pictures to show you of the whole place, but for now I’ll show you just the one room that i’m most excited about. now THIS makes me feel like an adult.. the fact that I’m most excited not about the big bedroom, not the jacuzzi bathtub, not the great location… but the kitchen island with more cabinets than i will EVER know what to do with :0) don’t get attached to the furniture or pictures, but i promise to share more once i’m in and settled. for this week though, i’m buried in boxes in my apartment trying to get my life packed up.. so please forgive the lack of blog posts the next two weeks, and please know that you’re all invited over for a cup of hot chocolate in my new kitchen once I move in :0)
