six strings and a pink ribbon

It was a Christmas present back in 2004. My mom had been telling me I should learn how to play guitar for years so I would have a way to accompany myself when I sing, and I finally had the time (and desire) to learn. Some of my best friends in college were pro’s and offered to teach me how to play, and once I got my own guitar I willingly accepted. I played a lot throughout college, not very well mind you, but I could be found sitting in my room trying to figure out new songs or leading worship at Campaigners only when no one else was willing to play. I’m one of those people that loved to play on my own, but would probably deny I played guitar if you were in need of someone to actually play in front of people. Sing? Sure. Guitar? No way. Go figure ;0)

No one was ever willing to play MY guitar though, not because it was a crappy guitar, but because of the pink ribbon that tied the strap onto the neck of the guitar. You see my guitar didn’t come with a nob on that end to attach a strap to, so I had to improvise and back in 2004 that was the best temporary solution I could come up with… now 7 years later, the pink ribbon has sort of become part of the guitar, and I just can’t bare to take it off :0)

Once I graduated I stopped playing, maybe its because it reminded me of college memories that I desperately missed, or maybe its because I didn’t have to practice worship songs to play at Campaigners anymore.. either way, my guitar stayed in its case for quite a while. A friend of mine asked me a few weeks ago if I’d been playing recently and it sparked something in me to pick ip up again. Now i’m happy to say that my left hand has calluses for the first time in a LONG time, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I am by NO means a great guitar player, but I am convinced that you can play just about any song if you know 4 or 5 chords :0) I forgot how much I loved playing and being able to freely sing with just my voice, these six strings, and little pink ribbon :0)
Maybe one of these days I’ll be brave enough to post a little video singing one of my favorite songs, buuuut I don’t think that day  is today ;0)
