by all means

So these days my Sunday mornings are a little busier, a little louder, and a lot more fun. After chaperoning for K.G.B’s Great Wolf Lodge trip back in January, I had a feeling it was only a matter of time before those little faces would eventually rope me into helping in K.G.B every Sunday. One of the pastors at church was teasing me yesterday just how easy I gave into them, “all it took was one little weekend away and they suckered you right in, did they?”  what can i say, i’m a softy :)

Every Friday night in February my church offered free childcare (really it was more like a mini camp… lets be honest, it was awesome!) to absolutely ANY couples in the community who were in need of a date night! Our mission for this year as a church is completely outreach focused, based out of 1 Corinthians 9: 19-23, specifically verses 19 and 22: “Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible… I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.” Our pastor has challenged us all to “By all means, win someone!” By all means. We had so many families show up for these date nights that had never stepped foot in our church, but because their kids had such an incredible time with us, they were dying to come back. I’ve asked kids over the past few Sunday mornings who are new to the church if it was what they had expected it to be like and they have all said something to the effect of “no way, this is WAY better!”

By all means.

We started advertising ‘wacky sunday’ and one girl in particular who only came to the very last date night heard about wacky sunday, and told me that she was determined to come back on Sunday morning dressed wackier than anyone else. Well she did in fact show up yesterday morning covered in crazy clothes from head to toe, and while her parents got to listen to Pastor Charlie upstairs, she was presented with the Gospel message potentially for the first time in her life down in K.G.B.

By all means.

I love that God can use something silly like “wacky sunday” to advance His gospel. His good news. I love that she sat there in her wig, face paint, inside out clothes, and mismatched shoes and heard about how much Jesus loves her. By all means, we’re gonna keep reaching kids just like her. Families just like hers.

Because a post just doesn’t seem complete with out a picture (and because some of these outfits are too good NOT to share!) here’s a little glimpse of Wacky Sunday K.G.B style! :) We had two Toys R Us gift cards for the boy and girl dressed the wackiest, and here are the finalists:
the two on the right were the winners showing off their gift cards! Between his fairy wings and her turkey hat, they had impressed all the judges ;) aren’t they glorious?! ;)

Happy Monday! :)
