the little moments

So often people talk about photography as being “timeless”, when in fact when you think about it, its just the opposite. Sure, you want images that people will be ooo-ing and aww-ing over for years and years to come, but a photograph is capturing one moment in time. Its capturing memories, an experience, and how you felt in that particular second. When I photograph your family I’m capturing what your family is like at that stage, because Lord knows it could look completely different in as little as a couple months, and you can never get that time back. I want to see and photograph the little moments that you never want to forget about what your family is like during that particular season in your lives, not just their outward appearance. For Mother’s Day I wanted to share a little preview of two of my favorite images from yesterdays session that show exactly what I mean. Its about cherishing the snuggles, giggles, tickles, and kisses that are given so freely, and praying those moments will last just a little longer… img_1935I think every Mom should have pictures like these with her family: img_2034I also need to take a minute and say a very special Happy Birthday to my favorite little man. He makes me laugh harder, smile bigger, breathe easier, and love deeper. If I’ve had a bad day, sometimes he’s one of the only people I want to be around. He’s been a cuddle bug from the beginning, and I knew from the time he was three weeks old and his favorite place to nap was curled up on my chest that I was done for. I would lay on the couch with this precious 3 week old boy all scrunched up and feel his heart beat strong and steady as he slept, and I found my happy place right then and there. He will still curl up against me, and every time he does I can smell that new baby smell and remember holding his little toes in my hand. So content. Thats how he’s always been, just content. He’s the happiest kid I’ve ever met, and his smile is infectious. I’ve said from the time he first smiled at me that he had kind eyes and just a sweet, easy going spirit and that is more true now than ever. He’s spunky and creative, and so incredibly loving. Sammy, you’re one of the best boys in the world and I’m so thankful for you! Happy Birthday little man, and thanks for bringing so much joy to my life! img_6603-copyIf my kids are half as awesome as Sammy is, I’ll be so thankful. And on that note, if I end up being half as good a mom to my kids as my mom is to me, I’m sure my kids will be thankful! She’s the most selfless person I’ve ever met and always goes out of her way for others.  She has always put her family leagues above her own needs or wants, even with something as simple as the radio station in the car. I can always tell who she has been driving with based on the radio station, because it would be their choice in music and not necessarily her own. She has worked more than I can imagine to take care of me and make sure I always felt loved. So much of the time I wish I was more like her, she finds contentment in whatever she’s doing and doesn’t let others bring her down. She’s independent and confident, joyful and easy going. She laughs at the silliest things and has the ability to crack herself up (which is quite hilarious to watch ;0) ) She has an adventurous spirit (except when it comes to heights.. or flying elephants ;0) ) and is my favorite travel buddy. She’s my favorite person to be around and has always been my best friend, which can be a rare thing for mothers and daughters, so I’m extra thankful for that! Happy Mother’s Day Mom! I love you so much! n31800280_30281120_3070
