Something that a lot of photographers have to constantly remind themselves is to every once in a while, shoot something just for you. For a few years now I’ve wanted to take pictures of Roan Mountain, the little town in eastern Tennessee where my grandparents live and my entire family has grown up going to our whole lives. My great grandparents lived in the same house my grandparents do now, and that place will always feel like “home” to me. Its quite. Peaceful. Breathtakingly gorgeous. Simple. Just what my soul needs when the speed and pace of life up in northern virginia starts getting to me. So I decided to take two days and go photograph something for me. Photograph this place that I love, and I’m so glad I did! I’ve been wanting a pretty landscape canvas of roan mountain to put in my living room and above my bed, so any votes for any image in particular would be much appreciated :0)
Welcome to Roan Mountain: don’t you want to live down that road???and have pretty apple trees in your front yard??this is my grandparents beautiful house: its been updated since my great grandparents lived here, and I absolutely love it! the back of the house and old barn:
usually there are a few horses and a ton of fainting goats that live on that hill right behind their house and my grandpas little personal vineyard :0)
Have a great weekend! :0)
I love the wheat field shot! :)
FANTASTIC!
there are tooo many good ones to choose from! seriously, i miss that place and that swing (although the one we were on was not a tire) aaaaaand the fainting goats! remember the one we found….poor guy. anywho, these are awesome. i loved the ones of the mtns and then u can see a little water and a fence in it, but i love the horses one, i love the little road one with all the trees….ahh i just love them all! I want to go back and play board games with your grandma :)
SO hard to choose, Jess. It must have been a gorgeous couple of days. I like the iron fence/gate with the hay and the mtns with black trees in front. If you can’t choose you could just blow up a big pic of Ty with his old “Crazy” hair! That would bring a smile to your face every day! xoxo~m
What an incredibly beautiful place!! I want to live there. Haha. :) I think either the 3rd, 5th, 11th, 13th, or 16th one. =D I could not choose, but those are my very favorites!
Gorgeous. Makes me wish my family owned that beautiful place. I can see how you would want to visit often and probably never leave. As for favorite canvas. I would have to say the first picture, the stream, the house with changing leaves on the mountain behind, and the one with the vineyard and horses. Thanks for sharing the great pictures. Love it
I am JEALOUS of your grandmother. It is so beautiful in so many ways!!
Oh my gosh, Jessica, beautiful! My father’s family is from a little one-stoplight town in the mountains of middle Tennessee, and it looks just like this! It is so serene, and I absolutely love it. Such a great place! :)
You captured my world, beautifully. Thank you. xoxoxo
I love the back yard too – but those mountains are calling my name! So many beautiful shots! How about a canvas cluster? Love you!
Just beautiful! LOVE the house. :)
Easy answer for me: grapevine, barn, crib and horses on the hill.
Home! Love you!
