birthday balloons

Wait a minute, didn’t I JUST do a post for her 7th birthday? how has it been a year already? Sigh, i so wish these kids in my life wouldn’t be in such a rush to grow up. Seriously go back and look at the old photos in this post, and tell me how the heck this kid has grown so much! This week I’m staying with all 5 of Lauren’s siblings (plus Chester the pup!) while their parents take a much needed vacation, which means I was in charge of the birthday celebration and making sure mom and dad weren’t missed too terribly much. We filled her bedroom with balloons last night, made some yummy chocolate chip muffins for breakfast, and arranged for a special donut treat for her camp group this afternoon. In my mind birthdays should always be a big deal, and I think so far for today we’re doing okay! :)
Lauren,
If its possible, I think this year you have changed more than any other. You get smarter by the day and one of my favorite things in the world is to have you read to me. I’m not sure when we switched those roles, from me reading to you, to you reading to me, but it makes me so happy to see how smart you are and how much you love to learn. I love that you will still curl up in my lap or prefer my shoulder to your pillow when we read before bed. Please do that for at least a few more years, okay? You just seem so grown up to me these days, and every time I see you I’m reminded what a sweet, kind, beautiful girl you are, and I’m so excited that I get to be a part of your life. That I got to be there to rock you as you drank your bottle, when you took your first steps, when you started preschool, learned to ride a bike, lost your first tooth… and everything in between. You are so special to me, and I love you to the moon and back!
no word is big enough,
Miss Jessie
