Home for the Holidays

This whole concept of “settling in” has just seemed to escaped me the past few months. People have been asking me if I’m all set up in my new home since I moved in back in September and I feel like I’ve given the same answer every time.. “I’m working on it! It will get there one day, just not today!” I don’t necessarily have a good eye for decorating, and so the thought of accessorizing my house has kept getting pushed to the end of my to-do list. However, when December rolled around I was determined not to  let this season pass me by without at least putting up a FEW things to make it feel a little more “homey”. Its nothing major, but these few little touches around my living room and family room definitely make it feel more like MY home, and if you add a cup of hot chocolate, some christmas music, and turn the fireplace on and I will curl up on the couch and  stay all day :0)

One of these days I promise I will (attempt to) clean my entire house top to bottom and show you pictures of the whole thing, but for now here are just a few pictures of the main level, and I’ll save the upstairs for another day! img_9606Those little pinecones smell like cinnamon and are making my whole house smell delicious :0 img_9553Growing up our tree never really had a “theme”, but its decorated with lots of pretty ornaments that we’ve collected throughout the years. One of the best parts of decorating the tree was remember when and where we got all the ornaments or what made us pick those ones out. I’ve got one ornament on the tree that is a little plaque that says “I believe in Santa Claus!” and I remember driving back from the our thanksgiving beach trip one year when I was maybe 5 or 6 and stopping at a christmas store to look at their decorations.  Of course I had already picked out my ornament, but I had to get that ornament not for myself, but for my baby doll who I dragged EVERYWHERE with me :0) So thats what I plan to do for my christmas tree too, just get a few new ornaments each year that I really like, instead of having a more organized theme to the tree. img_9612This nativity set was my christmas present last year and I LOVE it!

This is the family room, which is attached to the kitchen. This picture I showed you before I moved in is whats on the other side of this room, its all one big open space. img_9579I had this charlie brown christmas tree last year, and I saw these 4 little guys at Hallmark and knew they had to go around the tree. Thank you Ant Lisa for my new favorite christmas decoration  :0) I’m already tempted to leave these guys up all year long, I just don’t think I could put them back in their boxes! :0)

when i saw the first pic of your center table my first thought was “where’s the charlie brown tree?” bc last time it was on the brown ottoman in the other apartment…but i was relieved to see it had it’s own corner. i can’t wait to see it in person when you get back. hopefully i will be feeling better by then :)
